It is in playing and only in playing that the individual child or adult is able to be creative [...] and it is only in being creative that the individual discovers the self

About me

Hello, I’m Jamie, a UKCP registered integrative child and adolescent psychotherapist. Child and adolescent psychotherapy provides a nurturing space, customised to meet the specific emotional and developmental needs of young people. This entails extensive training in areas such as child development, safeguarding, and specialised interventions tailored for working with children and young individuals. My training has equipped me with the understanding and skills necessary to provide support that respects the unique journey of each child and family.

I am also passionately child-centred, which is about creating a safe, non-judgmental space where children can explore their inner worlds at their own pace. I follow the child’s lead working with the issues the child brings to each session.

I work systemically, which means I work with the child and the family. Sometimes if it is appropriate, I can work with the child’s school. I strongly believe, that for a positive outcome, consistency of care across all the systems the child inhabits is crucial.

I have always been passionate about the wellbeing and rights of children, so when I finally decided to train as a psychotherapist, there was no doubt in my mind that I would specialise in working with children and young people. I believe that children and young people know exactly what they are going through, but often struggle to put it into words. As a child psychotherapist, I have the great privilege of helping children and young people to find a way of articulating their issues and discovering their voice.

My journey began in 2017 when I left a career in the music industry to start training as a psychotherapist. During this time I volunteered with Care Free Kids (CFK) in Walthamstow in London, a charity offering non-directive play therapy in local schools. I also volunteered with Every Parent and Child (EPC) in Enfield, working as a mentor in primary schools.

Since then I have worked in both state and independent schools, and for therapeutic services across London as a psychotherapist and therapeutic lead. I have experience of working with multidisciplinary teams and with external agencies such as CAMHS and Social Services. During my training, I spent a year shadowing the Waltham Forest CAMHS team where I gained a deep understanding of the NHS referral and pathways system. I am also currently a member of the core teaching staff at The Terapia Centre in Finchley, London.

I have worked with children, young people and their families from a diverse range of backgrounds who have struggled with a broad range of issues. Like any psychotherapist, I have specific areas of interest and these include:

  • Depression

  • Anxiety

  • Self Harm

  • Suicidal Ideation

  • Neurodiversity

  • Gender and sexuality

  • Developmental trauma

  • Adoption and cared for children
